Roberts Ridge: A Day of Honor and Sacrifice

Roberts Ridge: A Day of Honor and Sacrifice
March 3–4, 2002 — A date forever remembered in the history of U.S. Special Operations Forces. High above the rugged mountains of Afghanistan, the Battle of Takur Ghar unfolded during Operation Anaconda — a short but fiercely intense fight against al Qaeda forces.

On the frozen summit of Takur Ghar, American special operators faced relentless enemy fire. Helicopters attempted multiple landings under extreme danger, each met with heavy resistance. Though the peak was eventually secured, the cost was heartbreaking.
Seven brave warriors gave their lives that day — men who embodied courage, brotherhood, and unwavering duty.
The Fallen Heroes:
• PO1 Neil “Fifi” C. Roberts – U.S. Navy SEAL
• TSgt John A. Chapman – Air Force Combat Controller
• SrA Jason D. Cunningham – Air Force Pararescueman
• CPL Matthew A. Commons – U.S. Army Ranger
• SGT Bradley S. Crose – U.S. Army Ranger
• SPC Marc A. Anderson – U.S. Army Ranger
• SGT Phillip “Spytech” Svitak – 160th SOAR (Airborne)
Their sacrifice turned Takur Ghar into sacred ground — known forever as Roberts Ridge.

Courage was their mission.
Brotherhood was their strength.
Freedom was the cause they served.
We remember them. We honor them. We will never forget.
