A Man Who Chose Children Over His Own Life

A Man Who Chose Children Over His Own Life
Born as Henryk Goldszmit in Warsaw in 1878, Janusz Korczak devoted his life to defending the dignity of children.
He built a “Children’s Republic,” where orphans had a voice, a parliament, and even a court — because he believed children are not the people of tomorrow, but of today.
When WWII turned Warsaw into a nightmare, he refused every chance to escape. On August 5, 1942, he marched with nearly 200 children to Treblinka, holding their hands, choosing loyalty over life.

He died at 64 — but his love lives on in every child’s right protected today.
