Paul Alexander: A Life of Resilience Inside an Iron Lung
At just six years old, Paul Alexander contracted polio in 1952 — a moment that changed his life forever. Paralyzed from the neck down and unable to breathe independently, he spent more than 70 years inside an iron lung.

But Paul refused to let a machine define his destiny . He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, earned his law degree in 1984, and in 1986 was admitted to the Texas Bar — becoming one of the very few attorneys in history to practice while living inside an iron lung.
In 2020, he shared his journey in his memoir Three Minutes for a Dog , offering the world an honest look at struggle, courage, and hope. Through social media, he inspired thousands by speaking openly about disability and perseverance .

Paul passed away on March 11, 2024, at age 78. His life remains a testament to the unstoppable strength of the human spirit — proof that even within steel walls, a determined heart can soar
