BOSTON – 5/13/2020: Lisseth Herandez holds her twins Sebastian Guevara Hernandez, left, and Aurora Guevara Hernandez while visiting them in the NICU at Tufts Medical Center. Hernandez was 29 weeks pregnant and carrying twins when she became severely ill with COVID-19. In danger of dying, doctors at MGH raced to deliver the twins while Lisseth remained on a ventilator. One month later, Lisseth has recovered and her now son and daughter are growing bigger by the day. (Erin Clark/Globe Staff)

Just a new mum on a hospital floor, exhausted to the bone—yet holding her newborn twins like her whole world depends on it.  A nurse leans in, the babies sleep, and in that stillness you can feel it: relief, survival, and a love so instinctive it hurts.

These photos remind us that motherhood isn’t glamorous—it’s brave, raw, and breathtakingly real.
