They were outnumbered before the first shot was fired.
June 28, 2005 — Kunar Province, Afghanistan. Operation Red Wings.

Four Navy SEALs on a quiet recon mission: Lt. Michael P. Murphy, PO2 Danny Dietz, PO2 Matthew “Axe” Axelson, and HM2 Marcus Luttrell.
Ambush erupted.
Outnumbered. Surrounded. Bullets ripped through the mountainside. Comms down. No cover.
Axe was badly wounded — bleeding heavily, barely able to stand — yet he kept fighting. He repositioned to cover his brothers, refusing to quit even as strength faded.
Murphy exposed himself to call for help → KIA.
Dietz fell in the fight.
Axe battled on until he was KIA at 29.

A rescue helo was shot down → 16 more lost (8 SEALs, 8 Night Stalkers). Total: 19 heroes gone.
Axe received the Navy Cross posthumously. His story lives in Lone Survivor.
Beyond awards: a son, friend, teammate who gave everything for his brothers.
He stood his ground. He fought to the end.
Never forgotten.
