13 confirmed + 27 suspected cases since July 2024
(Already spreading in NYC since 2024 • Rising in Europe for several years)
Most commonly affected group
Men who have sex with men (MSM)
Main symptoms
• Very itchy round/scaly patches
• Very inflammatory & angry-looking
• Often appears on genitals, buttocks, groin, thighs
• Not always perfect ring shape
• Can cause scarring if left untreated too long
Treatment
→ Oral antifungal medication
→ Usually needs 6–12 weeks (can be a long course!)


How to protect yourself & others
Get checked at an STI clinic ASAP if you have a suspicious rash + recent sexual contact
Avoid all skin-to-skin contact in the affected area while symptomatic
Don’t share towels, razors, underwear, bedding
Wash hands thoroughly after touching affected skin
